Paragraph Counter

Count paragraphs in your text and check paragraph length distribution for better structure and readability.

How the Paragraph Counter Works

WordCountNow's Paragraph Counter detects paragraph breaks in your text using blank lines as delimiters. It counts the total number of paragraphs and shows the word count per paragraph so you can spot any that are too dense or too thin.

Why Paragraph Structure Matters

Well-structured paragraphs make content scannable. On the web especially, readers skim before they commit to reading. Short paragraphs (3–5 sentences) are easier to digest than walls of text, and white space keeps readers moving through your content.

Best Practices for Paragraph Length

  • Web content: aim for 3–5 sentences per paragraph
  • Academic writing: one idea per paragraph, typically 5–8 sentences
  • Never exceed 8 sentences in a web paragraph — break it up
