Weak Verb Detector
Find possible weak verbs, filler intensifiers, and flabby sentence openers — then swap in something stronger.
What the Weak Verb Detector Flags
This is a rules-based scan for four common patterns: a be-verb plus an -ing form ("was running"), get-forms ("get", "got", "getting"), an intensifier plus a word ("very tired", "really good"), and sentences that open with "There is/are/was/were". It's not a full grammar analysis, so every result is a possible weak verb worth a second look — not a guaranteed error.
Suggested Alternatives
For common intensifier-plus-word and get-form combinations, the tool offers a short list of stronger single-word alternatives you can swap in directly. Not every flagged phrase comes with a ready-made suggestion — some just need your own judgement to rework.
When a Flagged Phrase Is Fine
Sometimes "was running" or "very" is exactly the right choice — in dialogue, for instance, or when you genuinely want the emphasis. Treat each highlight as a prompt to reconsider, not a rule to follow blindly.
