How the Repeated Word Fixer Works
The Repeated Word Fixer groups the words in your text by a loose stem — folding plurals and common -ing/-ed endings together, so "run", "runs", and "running" all count as one word family. Common stopwords ("the", "and", "is", and similar) are skipped entirely. A word family gets flagged once it appears 3 or more times, or 2 or more times if its stem is longer than 7 letters, since longer, more distinctive words tend to stand out sooner. You'll also see a vocabulary variety score out of 100 for the whole text.
Getting Synonym Suggestions
Click any highlighted word to see synonym suggestions pulled from the free Datamuse API — only the single word you click is ever sent, never your full text. From there you can replace just that one occurrence or every occurrence of the word family at once, and the variety score updates immediately so you can see the effect.
Why Word Repetition Matters
A word repeated a handful of times in a short piece is easy for readers to notice, even if they can't say exactly why the writing feels flat. Varying your vocabulary — without forcing in a thesaurus word that doesn't fit — keeps prose feeling fresh from paragraph to paragraph.
